Abstract. This article attempts to define the intersections between the richness of tradition and the perspective of modernity. It is pointed out that the conventional method of teaching can hardly meet the new demands for knowledge necessary for successful inclusion in the modern society. The role of the school as a communication center where new ideas are born and tolerated and the overall creative capacity is encouraged is highlighted. The place of innovative educational practices in the teaching of art is sought. Given are examples of exercises and good practices in this area.
