Absract. Modern education should not only outline the necessary key competences for the successful realization in social relations. Attention must be focused on applying competencies in unity to navigate complex information relationships and make appropriate decisions for oneself and others. This study aims to examine students' ability to apply the acquired language and natural sciences competencies to make decisions related to health and a healthy lifestyle. The results showed serious problems in analyzing specialized information in the native language; in producing an argumentative text in the native and foreign language and problems with correct expression in the foreign language. Special attention is needed in the learning process to develop the key competencies in unity and apply them in authentic problem-solving.
