Absract. The article analyzes data from a survey focused on the current reading practices of Bulgarian students in the Republic of Bulgaria and abroad. By comparing the results of the conducted survey with the findings of renown international studies focused on students' reading skills and attitudes, an attempt is
made to determine the degree of effectiveness of various reading/learning practices. The conclusions could serve for the development of methodical activities, through which the interest and motivation of the students in the Bulgarian language and
literature classes is provoked and which would help to master learning strategies,
giving better educational achievements.
