Abstract. The present work examines accumulated historiographical knowledge devoted to commercial entrepreneurship throughout the Bulgarian National Revival period. Monographs, essays, investigations, brief scientific communications, documentary editions, and handbooks are the publications analyzed. The main authors‘ theses are presented and discussed.
The stages of Bulgarian historiography are described, as well as the elements that influence knowledge development on the specified topic. The accomplishments and drawbacks of acquired scientific knowledge are described. Particular emphasis is placed on the areas that require more investigation. Three stages in the evolution of historiography on Bulgarian entrepreneurship are described. First, following Bulgaria‘s freedom from Ottoman domination until 1944. The following stage is related to the September 9, 1944 coup and the implementation of the Marxist-Leninist scientific paradigm in historical science. It lasted till 1989. The era following November 10, 1989 is given separately, with its own set of characteristics. Separate sections of the essay discuss the opportunities for researchers who focused their scientific efforts to the study of entrepreneurship during the National Revival period.
