Syncretism of Sentence Symbolism

Mariana Georgieva

Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (Bulgaria)

https://doi.org/10.53656/for2025-05-01

Abstract.  Syncretism is an objectively predetermined process of characteristic arrangement of the sentence construction as a prototype, of course. Objectivity is ensured by the intersection of the two axes of the subjective linguistic activity – cognitive-creative and communicative-perspective. This section is actually the phenomenal extension of cognition from thought into linguistic and metalinguistic explication, through the circuit of consciousness, subconsciousness, and emotivity. The direction is from the subject with its entire immanence outward, to the explication in and with language, and forward, to the other subject. The vector outward, towards explication in and with language, is along the cognitive creativity axis, and the vector forward, towards the other subject, is along the communicative perspective axis.

Keywords: syncretism; sentence; characteristic feature; Bulgarian language; communication; linguodidactology

The Conceptual Model of Content Analysis of Applicants’ Internal Motivation in Entrance Essays

Natalia Zhadko

Moscow City University (MGPU)

https://doi.org/10.53656/for2025-05-03

Abstract. The article discusses the methodological foundations and the sequence of developing a model for assessing the internal motivation of applicants to the master’s program in „Business Pedagogy“ at MGPU. An analysis of sources revealed that approximately 30% of students in higher education institutions in various countries do not complete their studies. Research confirms that one of the contributing factors is a low level of intrinsic motivation among applicants and students in general. The ability to identify internal motivation at the selection stage can help reduce the number of students dropping out during their studies. Within this work, the author developed and proposed a conceptual model and an assessment method based on analyzing entrance motivational essays.

Keywords: motivational essay, internal motivation, structure of internal motivation, conceptual modeling, conceptual model of internal motivation, content analysis of internal motivation in the texts of entrance essays of master’s applicants

Critical Discourse Analysis as a Methodological Foundation in Foreign Language Teaching for Education for Democratic Competences

Kalina Ishpekova-Bratanova

University of National and World Economy

https://doi.org/10.53656/for2025-05-06

Abstract. This paper argues that Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) is an effective method for integrating foreign language teaching with Education for Democratic Competences (EDC), as it combines linguistic proficiency with critical thinking and social awareness. It discusses recent Council of Europe policy documents, such as the European Year of Digital Citizenship Education and the Reference Framework of Competences for Democratic Culture (RFCDC), which highlight the importance of multilingualism and democratic competences in foreign language education. The paper also presents case studies to demonstrate how CDA can be applied in foreign language teaching to promote democratic values and intercultural competence.

Dimitar Vesselinov

Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”

https://doi.org/10.53656/for2025-05-07

Abstract. This article examines the formation of future teachers’ assessment skills based on the principles of linguodidactic theory. The study emphasizes that assessment skills are not only a tool for measuring learning outcomes but also a pedagogical mechanism that fosters students’ motivation, supports their personal development, and enhances reflective learning. A literature review of Kazakh, Bulgarian, and Western scholars highlights the multidimensional and developmental nature of assessment. The research identifies several challenges, including the gap between theory and practice, limited use of innovative technologies, and insufficient development of future teachers’ reflective culture. The article proposes solutions to these issues and substantiates the importance of improving assessment competence as a key component of professional teacher training.

Keywords: Linguodidactology, assessment skills, future teachers, professional training, criteria-based assessment, competence, reflection, innovative technologies

Political Branding in Social Networks (USA Presidential Campaign’24 in Tik-Tok)

Svetlana Stankova

Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”

https://doi.org/10.53656/for2025-05-08

Abstract. The subject of this paper is the communication strategies through which the candidates for the US presidency in 2024, Kamala Harris and Donald Trump, imposed their individual political brands in the social network Tik-Tok. The last three weeks of the election campaigns of the two candidates on Tik-Tok – the period between the 15th of October 2024 and the 5th of November 2024 – spans the timeline covered by the current study. This final stage of the campaign is often referred to as the phase of most intense „bombardment“ of the public with political messages. The focus here is laid on the specific image-building techniques and messages used by the two presidential candidates.  The methods of data processing and interpretation used in the study include detailed information search, empirical evidence extraction, monitoring, discursive and comparative analysis of the data obtained. As a result, the current paper leads to the observation that Kamala Harris and Donald Trump demonstrated a high degree of adaptability to the new communication platform, effectively coding their brand messages in line with the expectations and attitudes of specific audiences.

Keywords: USA presidential campaign, communication strategies, political branding, brand message, social network Tik-Tok, lingvodidactology

Spatial and Linguistic Accessibility of Climate Change and Disaster Adaptation Resources in Multilingual Societies

Kliment Naydenov
Sofia University, Sofia, Bulgaria

https://doi.org/10.53656/for2025-05-09

Abstract. This article examines the critical intersection of language policy, climate adaptation, and disaster risk reduction, focusing particularly on how linguistic diversity influences the geographical accessibility of adaptation resources in multilingual societies. Effective climate adaptation and disaster preparedness depend heavily on accessible communication; however, language barriers can seriously compromise the understanding and application of key information, leading to life-threatening situations. This challenge is especially acute in developing countries, where multiple indigenous languages coexist with official or colonial ones, often resulting in a mismatch between the dissemination and comprehension of climate-related policies and resources. The problem is further compounded by the proliferation of complex technical jargon in climate change discourse – often derived from global languages – which alienates non-specialist and linguistically diverse communities from vital climate knowledge and adaptive strategies. Moreover, the disproportionate dominance of English in sustainability science and policy intensifies this issue, creating a significant knowledge–action gap and overlooking the translingual practices necessary for culturally and contextually relevant understanding across diverse populations. The urgency of global climate action, emphasized in United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 13, calls for a critical examination of these linguistic barriers, particularly as current market-driven models of economic development prove increasingly unsustainable. Therefore, developing a comprehensive understanding of how language policies affect the accessibility and effectiveness of climate adaptation strategies is essential for fostering equitable and inclusive resilience-building efforts.
